We must prepare our economy, businesses and workforce well for the future so that we can sustain what we have today good growth, good employment, good wage increase and the resources to do more good for our people.
A central theme is about investing in our people and giving workers access to training and good job opportunities. Strong support is also given to businesses, especially SMEs, to become better, more productive & competitive.
How do we go about achieving that goal? In the Labour Movement, we have developed what is called the 4P approach which I will use to describe my thinking. The 4 Ps are: Protection, Progression, Placement and Privileges.
The labour movement believes that every worker needs the 4Ps - Protection, Placement, Progression and Privileges. In hope the budget would continue to allow the government to support the labour movement in our push to accord all workers these 4Ps.
I believe that we must persist in our efforts to restructure our economy. We must ensure that our businesses, including our SMEs as the largest contributor to local employment, to remain vibrant and robust; and continue to create new and provide better jobs for Singaporeans.
The Labour Movement has over the years came up with 4 Pillars to better reach out to our workers. They are Protection, Progression, Placement and Privileges. I would like to focus on these areas and take this opportunity to highlight 3 key areas of concern, namely CPF, Women and Tripartism.
First of all I would like to thank you for attending this very happy event for the MWC Team and helping us celebrate a milestone in our existence. We moved into our original Headquarters just down the road in 2009.
Today’s event is called “U Care for Community” and this is one of the many ways that we at the Labour Movement shows kindness to the less privileged community, so as to bring cheer and joy to our beneficiaries especially when the festive season is just around the corner.
