The International Women’s Day, which falls on the 8th of March every year, is a significant event that marks the contributions and recognition of women all over the world. It has gained so much awareness that it is now celebrated throughout the month of March.
When the NTUC-U Care Fund was started in 2009, we have set ourselves one clear mission. And that is to be a Caring Labour Movement that helps improve the lives of our low-income union members and their families
On a more serious note, the Labour Movement started the NTUC-U Care Fund with one clear mission. And that is to help improve the lives of our low-income union members and their families; supports needy children and youth in their pursuit of excellence.
Singapore celebrates her 49th birthday this year. In a short span of close to about 5 decades, we have progressed from a small trading post to an advanced and efficient nation with one of the highest standards of living in the world.
As Singapore moves ahead with the 21st century workforce, I am happy to see that companies and organisations here today are also transcending into 21st century employers with your progressive workplace practices. I salute all the winners here.
NTUC would like to recognize role models amongst us- be it “Better Workers”, “Better Leaders”, “Better Companies” or “Better Customers”. These include cleaners who have been exemplary in their work as well as service buyers, service providers and individuals.
Since the NTUC-U Care Fund started in 2009, we have disbursed over $59.2 million dollars to help our members in times of need. In 2013 alone, we have disbursed close to $9 million dollars through the various U Care assistance programmes.
