The relationship between the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore Staff Union (IRASSU) and Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) was brought to greater heights after they successfully scaled Mount Kinabalu, the highest mountain in South East Asia together.
In conjunction with IRAS’ 20th Anniversary Celebrations, IRAS Commissioner Moses Lee led Team IRAS, a contingent of 26 staff, on this expedition on 13 February 2012 and successfully conquered the peak at sunrise on 14 February 2012.
This was a significant moment for IRRASU as its flag flew proudly at the summit of Mount Kinabalu that morning. It also signified IRASSU’s commitment and perseverance to drive its membership to greater heights in the coming years.
Said IRASSU Assistant General Secretary Edmund Toh: “Through overcoming these challenge together, the trust and support between IRAS and IRASSU has grown even deeper. It was truly an inspiring journey for both IRAS and IRASSU, reflecting the continuous drive to scale new peaks of excellence together!”
IRASSU Executive Committee member Jali Bin Anwari was also one who took part in the expedition and made the union proud. He said: “It was a fabulous feeling being at the peak of Mount Kinabalu… The song 'Top Of The World’ by the Carpenters kept ringing in my ears… The Commissioner of IRAS is also really inspirational, and proved that age is no barrier to achieve one’s goal.”
